Yesterday, my family and I made the trip to Hiawatha, Kansas, one of the caucus locations. We got up at 6 AM and were on the road by 7. It took a little over 2 hours to get there. The parking lot was nearly full when we arrived, and it was still a half an hour until the caucus started. There were almost 200 people in attendance.
At the caucus, I had the privilege of speaking on behalf of Governor Huckabee. I spoke for about 8 minutes, covering many of the major points of Governor Huckabee's platform. I yielded the floor to a supporter I had met when I arrived, who spoke about the importance of having a man in the highest office who seeks the wisdom of God daily. Another gentleman spoke for a minute after that. His great grandmother was a slave, and he mentioned how a wonderful Republican president in Abraham Lincoln led the way in abolishing the atrocity of slavery. He then went on to say that he believed another great Republican president, Mike Huckabee, could be the one to lead the way in abolishing the holocaust of millions of unborn babies. My ten minutes was almost up, but one more gentleman had one thing to add. He told the crowd that this election was far from over and gave examples of brokered conventions the Republican party had in the past where the nominee went on to win the general election.
There were many Huckabee supporters who came, and there were even more when the truth was laid out before them. The total vote at this location was Mike Huckabee 121, Ron Paul 28, John McCain 11, Mitt Romney 6, Alan Keyes 5, and Fred Thompson 1. I had two people come up to me afterwards, saying they switched from McCain to Huckabee. I don't know if there were others who changed their minds, but at least I know I made a small difference. Many people thanked me for making the trip to Kansas. It was a great experience for me.
I know that we can all make a difference. There are more people who know the name Mike Huckabee now than when the campaign began, but not everyone knows about him, and even people who have heard of him do not know about his great vision and moral clarity. We neeed to continue to get the word out. After all, the media hasn't been doing their job lately. So whether it be talking to people you know, doing sign waves, passing out literature, participating in the phone bank, we need to all do our part. Last but not least, don't forget to give what you can, and don't forget to pray.
